The Art of Living Hand To Mouth

Here I Am 02:19
Not a book, I’m just pages Working hard for minimum wages I been talking with a friend of mine But he can barely ever find the time Says he got his ducks in a row Making less than what he owes Though we all got bills to pay Living day to day, and I say Here I Am, exactly where I find myself Here I Am, again, exactly where I find myself Asked the server who brings the drinks Want to know what she really thinks Went to college, got a masters, too Now she doesn’t know what to do Working hard to make it on her own But it’s hard to do it all alone She can’t seem to catch a break And she says Here I Am, exactly where I find myself Here I Am, again, exactly where I find myself x2 We’re the victim of the modern age We know it well, it’s all the rage Always acting like we know what’s right, But you have to look to see the light When we modify our point of view The lens we use to see it though We can see in shades of gray, and we say

Paper tigers Building paper gates Pyrrhic victories Have sealed our Fates, but to the last we stand Undecided on our own demands It’s a symphony Of how we inculcate Our worst enemies It's how we’ve learn to Hate, things we see in ourselves, so clear We hope the answers will just appear We built a castle in a bonfire And love it for the flames It serves us right to suffer When we’re the ones to blame It’s all we’ve ever wanted What a terrible shame These days we’re living Too close to the bone The magic’s fading The mystery’s Known, mostly for its saccharine appeal Ruined now its secrets are revealed All the voices Hurrahs of the crowd Are still echoing We're going deaf from the Sound, of our heart’s sullen, lonely cries Some never even bother asking why We built a castle in a bonfire And love it for the flames It serves us right to suffer When we’re the ones to blame It’s all we’ve ever wanted What a terrible shame

I’m a framework of history Written in ligament and bone Caught between what I could learn And what I should have known Still working out the fine points Taking my game straight to the mat Making out like I’m happy and free If you know what I’m getting at Trying to make things a little brighter So I can feel just a little bit lighter because I’m not feeling good, but I’m feeling better x2 I guess I’ve waiting on some good luck I know that I’ve had my due I’ve watched a ton fires burn out Hell, I’ve even lit up a few Been down the main streets and mean streets Walked some easy ones, too Good thing, while I was kickin’ around I learned what was true History is heavier the older you get How you carry it depends on mindset, because CHORUS I’ve been rolling out the benchmarks Owning it with my own deadlines I’d be happy to punch a clock If I could find the time I’m not working on a memoir I’m trying to weave you a spell Whether that’s one of them Good for me things I can never tell Some things are best left unspoken Ain’t leaving here with my heart unbroken, so I’m not feeling good, but I’m feeling better x2
4.
Oh, we pray with both hands clasped Trying to find assurance in the past Oh, we know we’re using up our chances And waste our time with furtive glances On a road we built with words that we’ve spoken Lines of communication are clearly broken While we argue about who controls the point of view We should all be deciding on what we’re going to do Before it’s too late How much would it cost to get back all we’ve lost? x2 Oh, we kept doing things our way Makes sense, turnabout is fair play Give us a break we’re just trying to make a living No surprise when karma’s unforgiving We always hold the truth at arms length We could probably face it but we lack the strength We got nothing to risk and everything to lose Nothing quite as awful as the fate you choose Before it’s too late How much would it cost to get back all we’ve lost? x2

It’s the perfect day for all the fucks I give it Never found a way to go out and live it It’s warm inside and there are no surprises And I have the Internet on all of my devices Instead of being part of any conversation I’ll just entertain myself to death I can watch it all with endless fascination I’ll just entertain myself to death I have several screens which I view the world through News is in HD, sports and weather is, too There’s a million titles that await my pleasure I can stream them all at my leisure Instead of being part of any conversation I’ll just entertain myself to death I can watch it all with endless fascination I’ll just entertain myself to death I can interact on a daily basis Scrolling through I see everybody’s faces And all the ads and political positions And I do it all at my own volition Instead of being part of any conversation I’ll just entertain myself to death I can watch it all with endless fascination I’ll just entertain myself to death
